If I Stay (Spoiler Free) Book Review - Gayle Forman

If I Stay – book review

Discover the good news that Jesus Christ offers. Why is the world the way it is? If God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and loving, would He really create a world like this? While they have highly favorable perceptions of each other personally, uncertainty hangs over their relationship as they have to figure out whether staying together beyond high school would be socially or logistically possible given their contrasting musical pursuits. Mia survives the impact but is in a coma.

Then, in an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving. I was really looking forward to reading this book and finally purchased it from Target. I thought I would cry while reading the book, but nothing ever came. Never take the small things for granted. Seeing as I have lost two very important people in my life, I do miss the small things.

If I Stay follows the story of seventeen year old Mia Hall who is extremely talented at playing the cello and has to make a huge decision: whether to pursue her dreams and go to Julliard and leave her family and her beloved boyfriend, Adam behind or not. However, the story takes a turn for the worst when Mia and her family get into a devastating car crash which immediately kills all of Mia's family apart from Mia, who is in a coma.

See a Problem?

This is the thing I liked the most about the book. Mia, a 17 year old passionate cello player has a loving family and a handsome boyfriend. Her life is full of joy, music and love and a promising future. But as they say that life is unpredictable, she meets with a fatal accident that kills her parents and sends her and her little brother in intensive care. Lying unconscious on the hospital bed, she experiences an OBE that allows her to witness the fate of every loved one she has ever known and offers her the most difficult choice of her life — should she stay or should she leave? Though you might not find several quotes to remember from the context of If I Stay , the way Forman has penned down the emotions and conflicts is worth appreciating.

M ia has a pretty much perfect life: rocker parents, an adorable brother, an amazing best friend, and of course, a great passion for the cello. The handsome rocker who fell for the quiet cellist. Despite her solid relationship with Adam, Mia has choices to make, and she chooses to apply for Julliard, one of the most prestigious music schools… Even though it is on the other side of the country. But all it takes is one snowy morning, a family trip in the car, a lorry driver not looking the right way… And suddenly, Mia has only one choice left to make. This is a powerful novel, which will reach out and touch your heart, make you smile and cry. The way it is written makes you feel calm and relaxed, but at the same time the story is really fast-paced and gripping. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this book, I enjoyed every single moment of it.

  1. Seventeen year-old Mia is lucky to have one of the coolest families around and the kind of perfect boyfriend that seems to only exist in fiction.
