STAND UP, SPEAK OUT! with Psalm One, Maria Isa, and The Happy Children — The Cedar Cultural Center

Speak out Stay safe is a session available to all primary schools in the UK. It aims to equip a generation of children with the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline. Pupils are taught in a lively, memorable and child-friendly way. It's an effective way to support your school's safeguarding duties and links directly to the curriculum. By the end of our visit, children feel empowered - knowing how they can speak out and stay safe.

Malala Yousafzai began speaking out about education issues at 11, and young activists like Madison Kimrey , Xiuhtezcatl Martinez , and Maya Penn are stepping up to show that there are no age limits when it comes to a passion for justice. Starting the conversation

If a student dropped to the linoleum floor hungry and ill, as a classroom community, we would come to her aid immediately. We would offer food and comforting words and search out medical support from the school nurse and possibly even dial Yet when students leave the classroom, they follow the social norms we've established here in America: If you see homeless who are ill and hungry, keep walking. Don't encourage that "behavior" by giving them money. If they want help, they can get it.

This year is the thirtieth anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and we are encouraging children and young people to celebrate this landmark moment through OutRight. This year we will learn how the Convention was created and the difference rights have made for children all over the world in the last thirty years. We need your support to empower children and young people to show decision makers what still needs to be done to make rights a reality for all children. Last year children from a primary school in London taught Unicef staff about the impact that air pollution has on their rights. Any school or youth organisation in the UK can take part. All you need to do is register here.
