INSIDE Shanghai with Jin Ye - Travel Guide - July 2018

48 hours in. . . Shanghai, an insider guide to China's cosmopolitan city

Before you buy your travel book take a moment to look over this China Travel Guide comparison chart — get even more details by clicking on the book title. The current edition of each of these books was published in , which makes them relatively up-to-date. I like that they also publish an ebook version of their China guide which could cut down on the added packing weight. The maps are good but are almost unreadable because there is so much information crammed inside. Same goes for the language guide. I mean, really. The book is an animal to carry around almost 2 inches thick and tries to cater to every type of traveler, which it proves is difficult but possible.

All Travel Guides. China Shanghai. Asia China Shanghai. Overview View on map. Nearby guides Hangzhou Ningbo. Some bank branches open on Saturday mornings. Shopping centres and department stores are usually open seven days a week until 8 pm or 10 pm.

Headed to these cities for a week in June; there are so many books Fodors, Lonely Planet, Frommers, Rough Guides, etc , which guide book is best? I had Lonely Planet. I was jealous when I arrived as some of the others in our group had Eyewitness which has lovely colour pictures, maps etc and makes planning easier. But in the end I was glad of Lonely Planet as it had far more detail and many practical hints, also because it has names, addresses etc written in Kanji. Showing this to taxi drivers etc was a much more successful way to communicate - most of them do not speak English confidently at all and although we tried to speak Chinese we were, frankly, pretty rubbish. So from what I saw I'd recommend taking both Eyewitness Beijing and Shanghai together in one book , and the individual Lonely Planet guides for the two cities.

What is the best Shanghai travel guide book? Fortunately there are quite a few options available and each of them caters to a different type of traveler. The physical book comes with a foldout map while the ebook offers high-resolution offline maps as well as links to online Google Maps a nifty little feature. View LP Shanghai on Amazon. They walk you through a 4-day itinerary at each city that makes the best use of your time, especially if that time is limited. That last one is huge.
