Over the last decade there has been a huge growth in popular philosophy. This year has been a good year for this sort of book. It is exceptional. I think, in some ways, this book is even better. She explains the philosophy and situates it in the time, but she does this with a very light touch. My selection of books is quite idiosyncratic. For me, Peter Singer is one of the best stylists alive in philosophy.
