Do you secretly dream of designing and making your own clothes? If so, then I have a few books that you might be interested in reading. However, if you take your time and digest the information slowly, you will find yourself able to create any garment you can dream up. Best of all, most of these books can be found for FREE at your local library. The first time I opened this book I wanted to weep. But, dig a little deeper and you will find a real treasure of information about how to take a basic sloper simplified pattern pieces and turn it into any dress you desire. The book uses drawings, not photos, to explain pattern-making.

A long time ago, I asked for your recommendations on books for true beginners. I thought it was high time I rounded up the top choices. Everyone has different learning styles, so you may find some of these books appeal to you in a different way than others. I left out recommendations for my book because, well, it seemed like a biased sample. I think it is a book that I will keep referring to forever because it is so good. It is a book that will last, so probably a great choice for a beginner.

I really wanted to put together a list of all-time favorites from my own shelf. Each one of these is from my collection, and is something I use frequently, or find really inspiring and fun. These are the books I own and love. You may notice some of your favorite books are missing, but this is in no way intended to be a slight to any of the fantastic authors not present! This selection leans heavily towards the vintage, because I collect them and find them extremely useful. In most cases, used copies of these books can be found on Amazon links provided , or check out your local library. In fact, it seems more of an early Home Ec text focused on sewing and directed at young ladies.
