Computer Peripherals & Interfaces (CPI) NotesThe CPU is interfaced using special communication links by the peripherals connected to any computer system. These communication links are used to resolve the differences between CPU and peripheral. There exists special hardware components between CPU and peripherals to supervise and synchronize all the input and output transfers that are called interface units. The binary information that is received from an external device is usually stored in the memory unit. The information that is transferred from the CPU to the external device is originated from the memory unit. CPU merely processes the information but the source and target is always the memory unit.

A peripheral or peripheral device is "an ancillary device used to put information into and get information out of the computer ". Many modern electronic devices, such as internet capable digital watches , smartphones , and tablet computers , have interfaces that allow them to be used as computer peripheral devices. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A peripheral is a piece of computer hardware that is added to a computer in order to expand its abilities. The term peripheral is used to describe those devices that are optional in nature, as opposed to hardware that is either demanded or always required in principle. There are all different kinds of peripherals you can add your computer. The main disctinction among peripherals is the way they are connected to your computer. They can be connected internally or externally. A bus is a subsystem that transfers data between computer components inside a computer or between computers. Unlike a point-to-point connection, a bus can logically connect several peripherals over the same set of wires.

An interface is the hardware and software needed between a processor and a peripheral device in order to compensate for differences in their operating characteristics.
Computer Peripherals and Interfacing provides a comprehensive coverage of the peripheral devices and their interfacing. The book focuses on the basics of computer hardware devices and dwells on the complex details of various devices. The book covers the following topics: * Input.
