Nikon D How To Customize It Effectively | Clicks & CorksIf you have been following the photography part of this blog for a while, you will have noticed that I do not talk about equipment, let alone brands, because I think what matters most are the principles of photography and, ultimately, the photographer who is behind the camera. However, a dear reader who knows I have and love a Nikon D and who has recently bought one herself asked whether I would post some advice as to how to effectively set it up , so here I am talking about equipment! This is because the latest CF cards are still faster than SD cards and trust me, with the unbelievable amount of data that the D moves to a memory card, you do need a fast UDMA 7 card if you do not want to fill the buffer too soon! Auto ISO : Auto ISO is a feature that may come in handy on certain occasions, such as when shooting sports indoors when light levels are generally dim or wildlife on the move at the fringes of the day. This is useful as it lets you set the highest ISO setting that you feel comfortable will return images with noise levels that are acceptable for their intended use. Below is a list of the custom settings that are the most useful to me:.
The correct concert photography settings are key to getting great photos in small and murky concert venues. Vincent, Nikon D , mm f2. In Aperture Priority mode you tell your camera the aperture you want to use and the camera sets the shutter speed accordingly. This is a setting I used for years. Appreciate this help from your camera.
The camera was returned to me, the problem remained. I unfortunately only discovered how bad it was when I was looking through the images I took at a wedding in February, all of which had to be scrapped. Lucky I had two D bodies with me and managed to capture enough images with them. At the Focus on Imaging exhibition earlier this month I spoke to several Nikon employees on their stand and was told something that I still cannot make sense of; "Your images are blurry because you're not used to such a high resolution sensor" I laughed so hard when I was told this and chose to speak with another representative, who also though that this was ridiculous. Anyway, I sent my D back to Nikon 14 days ago and this morning was called to say that they had found nothing wrong with the camera and referred me to a guide they've provided for idiots like me who have taken a million perfectly focused photos on a dozen cameras, yet have been unable to take one in focus image with the D www. Am I being fed BS directly from Nikon? Has anyone else been told the same story?
And when the camera is the D , the game is completely changed in ways I never expected. The truth is, the D sees more than I can see. I always try to shoot with my cameras set for auto white balance. Simply, the D is making better, more accurate judgments. The D has a 91,pixel RGB 3D sensor our first such sensor offered 1, pixels , giving the autoexposure system incredible, almost intuitive, accuracy. Before the D, filmmaking was something I thought about from time to time. So there you have it: a new appreciation for what technology really offers: the opportunity to keep learning and creating.

My daughter is taking a college photography course this semester and I suspect she might have thought it would be one of her easier classes. After all, she is already a great photographer! She has a natural gift for great subjects and composition and she definitely has practiced over the years. However, she has never shot in manual mode and her professor is requiring that for all their assignments. No auto! It's a great little camera and certainly will give her the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of shooting in manual.
